Greek Philanthropies

Breaking the Greek Stereotype

“Part of being in a sorority is that we have to give back to the community… Sororities and Fraternities are about bettering the person you are, and helping those around you is a major way of doing that. It helps create a bond and understanding with those around us”.  -Reilly Curtis, member of Alpha Omicron Pi Women’s Fraternity and sophomore at San Jose State University.

Being Greek, or in a Fraternity or Sorority, isn’t about partying it up all the time or all the things that it seems to be.What many don’t know is that there are numerous ways that these groups of people give back to their communities and to the world that we live in.

Each individual Fraternity and Sorority has what they call a Philanthropy. Their philanthropy is the organization or cause that they dedicate their time and money in order to help.

Many events are hosted by the Greek Community in order to help raise money for causes such as Heart Disease, Child Abuse, Arthritis, and etc. There are all kinds of events from bake sales to larger events such as pageants and other fundraisers.

Here are some of the upcoming events that have been announced (some dates have not been set yet):
